‘Gum’ Mixup at Texas High School Causes Gun Scare

A Texas high school kept students in their classes Wednesday after a mixup over the word “gum” led to a weapons investigation.

A student at Lehman High School in Kyle had asked someone for some chewing gum, but another student misheard the word “gun” and alerted administrators of a possible firearm on campus, EAG News reported.

No gun was found and Hays County, Texas, school district spokesman Tim Savoy insisted the school was never in lockdown, though school administrators held students in their extended class periods to investigate.

In a letter sent home to parents, Principal Michelle Chae said the school received a report from a student that there was allegedly a weapon on campus, the Hays Free Press reported.
