Chinese leaders and their surrogates in the United States have been working hard this election season to play down the significance for the United States of China’s rise. The issue remains of first-order historic importance, however, and the candidates are duty bound to address it frankly in tonights’s debate on foreign policy.
Luckily two U-Tube videos have just been released which shed crucial light on the different aspects of China’s rise, and we can only hope the candidates have time to take a look ahead of their encounter tonight.
The first is entitled, “Killed For Organs: China’s Secret State Transplant Business,” and it gives a horrific account of the Chinese state’s “harvesting” of hearts, livers, and other vital organs from prisoners of conscience to meet the demands of the domestic and global organ transplant industry. The trade has thrived particularly with the use of organs taken from Falungong supporters. If this clip does not focus American attention on the ethical implications of China’s rise, nothing will.
